Isaiah 12:4 “Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted."

Highways have a way of easing my mind and planes have a way of making me feel free. For some, traveling is a burden, but for me it's an opportunity for growth, reflection, and relaxation. Often times I use driving to pray, sing, ponder, or listen to music. I'm starting off the upcoming year below the equator and traveling right back to the top.

This Thanksgiving, my grandmother gave us the opportunity to share with our family the journeys we were embarking on and where we were going. I will begin the first day of the new year in South Africa and finish the month of January in my home nation's capital, Washington D.C. There are distinct differences in my trips, but I often find the same purpose in every trip I take, no matter small or large.

In South Africa, I will be traveling with fellow students learning about the non-profit business organizations, and visiting a children's orphanage. We will begin our journey in the richest parts of South Africa, and end it in the poorest. In Washington D.C., I will be surrounded by the nation's leading collegiate scholars along with the political leaders of America, discussing and attending the presidential inauguration. Both journeys are different, but both will give me the opportunity (I pray) to spread love in observation, conversation, and leadership.

The Lord has called us to use ourselves as servants, spreading his word among the nations that we belong to and those we don't. Even a simple journey, such as driving down the highway, reflecting upon myself, I am given the opportunity to grow and reflect in my faith, asking the Lord to guide me in the right direction. Often times when we read Isaiah 12:4, we believe that we need to physically travel among the nations shouting the word of God. I believe we can also achieve the same in simple ways. No matter the purpose of the journey, no matter the place, we can use it as a period of growth and reflection of our faith, AND an opportunity to spread love to every one in our path.
