Boeings and Believings

As I departed on yet another of the many Boeing 737s I’ve traveled on in my life, I thought about how confident I was that I would make it to my next destination. By stepping on the plane, I immediately put my trust in a machine, the pilots, and the flight crew to get me there safely... without even a doubt in my mind. I was sure that the propellers would turn, the navigation systems would be accurate, and the variety of beverages would be plentiful to my liking.
When we get in our cars and put our foot on the gas peddle, we trust that they will escort us and our families safely to where we need to go. Before cars, we even trusted an animal enough to swing a leg over and ride it through the countryside.
We trust that when we see a doctor, they have the knowledge and training to figure out our bodies. When we deposit our checks, we trust that the banks will keep our money safe. We trust surgeons, veterinarians, dentists, teachers, mechanics, police officers... and my goodness do we put a lot of trust in hair stylists!
Whether a machine or a person, we go through the motions of our day relying on other people subconsciously. We hold the expectation that those surrounding us will have our best interest in mind. Our minds are constantly expecting to be taken care of, hoping that everything runs smoothly (and as planned).
What’s the one thing that we usually find so hard to put our trust in? God.
Isn’t it ironic that we will trust man, machines made by man, but are hesitant to trust the one who made man?
We're told in scripture and in church to trust the Lord and His plan for our lives... but immediately we may start to doubt. “What if He doesn’t have my best interest in mind?” “God may want me to do this, but don’t you think I could make more money in this job?“ It’s hard for me to see His plan, so maybe I should just create my own..” “How can I trust someone or something I can’t see?”
We often follow government leaders donating our money, vocal support, and place faith that they will better our lives and the place we live. Do we put our money, vocal support, and faith in God that He will better our lives and places we live?

How much easier, more valuable, and opportunistic would life be if we placed all of our trust in God? We should place our certitude in God regarding our health, safety, career, family, and journey... having faith that He loves us and has our best intentions in mind.
So...
After I stepped off the airplane this morning, thanking the pilots for taking me to another step of my journey.. I also thanked the Real Pilot for guarding me to my next destinations.
