Be Okay with Your Reality

Have you ever watched House Hunters? "Carrie and Drew live in Northern California.. Drew makes rubber band balls and Carrie is an ice cream entrepreneur! They have a budget today of $7,000,000 for their new home." It seems like every episode that I see is not very realistic. Kind of like getting on social media.

It seems like priorities have changed.. and we are losing our sense of reality.

At 22 years old, I have friends getting lip injections and botox to tighten their face. They suddenly go from a "A cup" to a "D cup". Something I used to joke about in middle school.. or laugh at Tim Allen in "Christmas with the Kranks" when he can't eat his peaches because he just had botox done.

Is that really going to make you feel beautiful?

Some of the bloggers I follow have a husband or wife who makes an insane amount of money, so they have the ability to travel to far away places, decorate their homes (probably not using Hobby Lobby coupons), and wear clothes that make them look like a runway model. They often have multiple sessions of family pictures done to highlight how happy they are.

Is that really the definition of having a good marriage?

Do not get me wrong, I use makeup just like the next girl to boost my confidence and hide my blemishes. Do not get me wrong, I understand some people are financially well off. I am not insulting anyone or saying any of these things are wrong..

The point I am trying to make is sometimes we have an expectation of reality where we constantly need to obtain the "next level" to be considered beautiful, successful, or in good social standing.. But reality for a lot of us is different.. and that is okay.

It is okay to be in your 20's, unmarried, with a mediocre car, career, clothing style. Heck, it is okay to be in your 60's with those things.. As long as you are happy.

Some days, I cannot make it to the gym because I am working 60 hour work weeks. I do not get to drive a Range Rover because I am early in my career (well & I do not want one). I have had the opportunity to travel because that has been where I wanted to designate where my money went to. My apartment is like living in a shoe box and it NEVER seems to be clean.

Guess what? I'm still ME!

My priorities and values may be different than yours, but I still sometimes fall into the pressures of society. Who doesn't want a fairy tale marriage or a thin waist?

But.. Instead of focusing on material items, focusing on making memories. Instead of comparison to what others have, compare how far you have come from where you started. Instead of trying to "fix your appearance", try fixing what you look like internally..

Reality is.. most people are not born with a trust fund, perfectly straightened white teeth, meet the love of their life on the first try (or second, or third). Most people struggle with weight, depression, finances, health issues, and are just busy for goodness sake. That does not mean "their reality" is wrong, insignificant, or less than others.

We have the opportunity to find happiness, no matter what state we are in.

Be okay with your reality!

Proverbs 22:2 "Rich and poor have this in common: The LORD is the Maker of them all."

John 13:16 "Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him."
